GES® Creates Mine Site @ Nite Special Events Center
The special
events center was patterned after the
strip mine at Round Mountain Gold Corporation,
a working mine near Tonopah, Nevada.
Upon entering the
Mine Site special events center, guests
were immersed in the experience of being
in a large strip mine. The mountain itself
was fabricated from capsulated foam that
was carved and painted with a true-to-life
color faux finish to resemble actual mine
walls.
“We wanted
to produce a true outdoor mine experience,” said
Michael Cunningham, GES national account
executive of the Mine Site. “The
thunder storm portion of the event started
in the skyline of the south cyclorama as
a distant storm slowly growing and moving
closer. Once the storm moved into the valley
we used a series of fog generators; extremely
bright fixtures called lightning strikes;
and a series of folder horn sub woofers
to simulate a violent thunder storm,” said
Cunningham.
To complete the
look and feel of a strip mine, a polished,
high-tech mine control center with two
work areas was built and placed on display
where attendees could observe the real-time
monitoring of two working mines. These
control rooms displayed live images from
the mine sites on two large format air
screens, plasma screens and flat-screen
computers.
“The Mine
Site @ Nite special events center is an example
of the innovative and creative special events
that GES’ talented employees produce,” said
Paul Dykstra, president and CEO of GES.
